Koh Samui is the perfect Thailand destination if you consider yourself a foodie or simply if good food is a priority when travelling. Our small island boasts so many restaurants of different styles that it made creating this list a difficult task.
Our first step in deciding on our list was to set out the criteria - but we realized that many of the best eateries have very different characteristics. So we decided the best idea would be to go and try them all so we could get a better idea of the quality of food, atmosphere and service. We gladly went on this adventure and got to discover less known restaurants that were so incredible we just had to include them on our list.
Chez Francois is one of Koh Samui’s best-kept culinary secrets, until now since we decided to share it with you. This fine French cuisine restaurant is a hidden gem only accessible with a reservation. As there are no walk ins allowed we suggest you ask your IVL concierge to make a reservation for you well in advance.
The Boudoir specializes in terroir French cuisine or “countryside cuisine”. The kind of cooking only a French grandmother with a lot of patience would cook. It is now available to you and it is mouth watering. The decor of the restaurant is also one of the reasons guests love it; colorful and welcoming just like the owners of this secluded gem.
Barracuda uses mostly fresh local produce and is influenced by Mediterranean cuisine. You will appreciate the presentation as well as the choice its menu offers. Located at The Wharf, a brand new shopping experience by the beach at Fisherman's Village.
Artizen offers an incredible dining experience where the quality of its produce comes first. The restaurant has its own organic garden where many its ingredients are grown and its homemade charcuterie is available to take home from the Artizen Deli.
If you are looking for a great pizza or pasta dish look no further. Celli's has a well-deserved reputation for the quality of its delicious Italian food and the level of service.
SabeInglae is an institution on the island and a must go for seafood lovers and people willing to experience Thai food at its best. The restaurant has several locations on the Island and we would advise you to book a table, as it can get very crowded.
Sea Salt Restaurant is Chef David Lloyd’s restaurant and for us one of the best restaurant in Choeng Mon. Not only the Western and Thai dishes are incredible but its beach location is stunning.
Café 69 offers mouth watering Thai fusion food and is a must go if you want to try the local produce. Well known by the residents of Koh Samui, Café 69 will surely make you love Thailand’s flavorful cuisine.
The Larder has a modern take on western cuisine and offers various theme nights throughout the year. Diners praise both the quality and presentation of their dishes as well the welcoming attitude of its owners. The Larder Sunday Roast with its 'build your own Bloody Mary' station is a must!
This chic steak and seafood restaurant is the perfect mix of urbane flair and relaxed beach vibe. The grill-focused cuisine and laidback attitude are Mediterranean style, while warm service, farm-fresh local ingredients, stunning Chaweng beach location and traditional architecture are unmistakably Thai.
This gastro restaurant, bar and lounge has a perfect take on fine food and mostly uses local produce. The presentation is always perfect and a good venue for romantic dinners and special occasions.
Krua Bophut is the last restaurant on our list but definitely not the least. This restaurant is one of Koh Samui’s best and most renowned Thai restaurants. If you are looking for tasty and affordable Thai cuisine then this is your best option.
The atmosphere at Zazen Restaurant is one of romance, sophistication and intimacy. At night, soft jazz mingles with the sound of gentle waves and guests enjoy the pleasures of fine dining and elegant service. The restaurant is located on the beachfront at Bophut, with sweeping views of neighbouring islands over the tranquil and gentle waters of the bay.
This list is not exhaustive and many more amazing restaurants are to be found on Koh Samui. We simply shared the ones we believed deserved a special shout out and that represented different types of cuisine and style. We hope you enjoy your culinary experience in Koh Samui and bid you Bon Appetit!
